Week One
Wow! Where in the world has this week gone? I had no idea that each day would be so full of activities; that I would barely have enough time to sleep, let alone blog. Here is a brief overview of our first week in Spain...
Friday, June 18: placement test. orientation. campus tour. trip to Carrefour (Spain's equivalent of WalMart). beach. youth vespers at church.
Sabbath, June 19: Church (communion). Sabbath School. Montanejos, a natural mineral spring in the mountains. swim. worship.
Sunday, June 20: sleep in. hike. picnic on the beach.
Monday, June 21: first day of class. welcome dinner with teachers. futbol game between Spain and Honduras.
Tuesday, June 22: class. study. beach.
Wednesday, June 23: tour of Sagunto. castle. Roman Theater. open air market. hike. celebrate festival of San Juan on the beach with all the residents of Sagunto until 1am. bonfire. marshmallows. jumping the waves at midnight. fireworks.
Thursday, June 24: class. study. hike.
Friday, June 25: class. study. Carrefour. beach. vespers program by the Children's department at church.
Sabbath, June 26: Church. Sabbath School. waterfall. hike through tunnel. picnic.
Sunday, June 27: sleep in (finally!). homework. boat tour of underground cave system and river. exterminate wasp family from under bed.
So much to see. So much to do. So much to learn. I have a new favorite Bible promise for my six weeks in Spain: "Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? . . . If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast." Psalm 139:7,9,10

Here we go!
We knew this was going to be an adventure when we got to Dulles and scanned our passports. No, not Fernando Calhoun and Catherine Bauer...
Once we finally got checked in under the right names and boarded our plane, we sat on the tarmac for about an hour. This delayed our arrival in Madrid and we missed our connection flight to Valencia. Thankfully, we found a nice English-speaking attendant who took us to the red carpet Business Plus counter and booked us tickets for a new connection at 3pm (rather than the 10am which we had been scheduled to fly). So we sat in the airport for several hours taking turns sleeping and watching the bags.
But here we are! What a beautiful campus! You can see the mountain, orange groves, the town below, and the ocean all from our balcony window. It's breezy and not too hot with no humidity. We've already met some of the other summer students and it seems like it is going to be a really great group of people.
We'll try to post some pictures at some point... we're borrowing the internet cable from our roommate to be able to post at all. Thanks for your prayers for traveling safety. They were certainly answered!

One
Clothes everywhere. Travel-sized this and that. Last minute purchases. No Euros yet. College transcripts and class registration. One more scholarship letter. Charge the camera. Still so much to do! But a happy heart. Excitement beyond belief. Tommorow is the day!

Two
How exactly do you pack for six weeks? It's longer than a vacation but not quite like moving in. Hmm...

Three
The countdown begins! On Wednesday I embark on my next international adventure: six weeks in the beautiful country of Spain. I am spending the summer at Escuela Superior de Espanol, Sagunto College to improve my Spanish language skills and earn (hopefully) nine college credits. My goal is to be a bilingual nurse by the time I graduate college and this will be the first step- besides the two years of high school Spanish I have already taken- to achieving this goal.
I have never kept a travel blog before, so this will be an experiment. I will try to update fairly regularly so you can follow what's going on. If you want to know more about the school I'll be studying at, visit http://aca-noborders.com/year/school.php?school=Sagunto. Also, please feel free to leave me comments. I'd love to hear what you think of this blog, my travels, or anything else you would like to share.
